Birdie’s Tree: Growing together through natural disasters We live in uncertain times, with COVID-19 and natural disasters dominating the news cycle for the past 18months. These events can be distressing for young children and it can be difficult for parents to know how best to navigate their child through these experiences. Birdie’s Tree has been developed by the Queensland Centre for Perinatal and Infant Mental Health to promote emotional wellbeing in babies, young children and families affected by natural disaster. The site includes games, resources and storybooks covering COVID-19, illness, bushfire, cyclone, heatwave, flood, drought, and earthquake. There is even a guided meditation designed for children. The storybooks are available for free in digital format, with hardback copies available for purchase. They are each available in several languages including Arabic, Chinese, Karen and Somali.
