Abdominal pain in testicular torsion You have just seen Leo, a 13year old boy who presents with an acute onset of RIF pain. You think that he has appendicitis and present the case to your consultant who asks “did you examine his scrotum?” You wonder, does every teenage boy presenting with abdominal pain really need a scrotal exam? This publication from the Queensland Paediatric Quality Council reminds us that teens with testicular torsion may not volunteer their symptoms or may actually present with abdominal pain. Given the significant implications of a missed or delayed diagnosis, it is vital that we actively exclude testicular torsion in all boys presenting with abdominal pain and seek urgent surgical advice if concerned.
